Written in Du’a

Amina had always believed in the quiet power of du’a. She had never been the type to dream of grand romantic gestures or cinematic love stories. For her, love looked like gentle understanding, a shared prayer mat, and someone who would remind her of Allah when the world became loud. So when her mother mentioned that a family had inquired about her, Amina was calm. Not excited, not anxious, just grounded. “Let me pray Istikhara,” she had said, as always. The boy’s name was Zayd. A civil engineer, slightly older, who had returned to Sri Lanka after finishing his studies abroad. His mother had seen Amina at a community workshop where she was tutoring underprivileged children in English and had been quietly observing her ever since. “A girl with adab, not just ambition,” she had told her son. The first meeting was arranged at Amina’s home , in the presence of both families. There was no awkward silence just respectful conversation, tea, and the rustle of intentions being tested. Lat...

Street Lives

Waited thousands of nights,

Standing in the horde without partaking or water,

I expected today I will get what I desired.

I left my home, my business, and all my activities,

I returned home not after hours but about in or after three days,

All were expected to be fed and fulfill their needs...

The tot cried in the bed and all were starving.

I waited under the hot sun,

My sweat falls like a waterfall to the ground,

The ground is wet like a river with many people's sorrows.

Today or tomorrow?

Neither not,

Sacrificed all the life- belongings and till this day standing for what we aimed for.

The queue gets longer and longer like an Anaconda!

Many tears were turned into a smile while people gathered.

I'm also the one among them,

We slept in the streets and sanitize in streets,

We ate what we got through the streets.

The nation couldn't bear the instability of ruling parties that existed in the country,

All gathered and asked for justice,

Seems like no answer!

All went in and lived their life for the day like how the hierarchy people did,

The reality was proclaimed in visual to the whole nation.

I still would say,

Yet we are together and

Yet we fight for what we require!

We aren't silent like anymore,

Till we chase the cawing crows!

This is not the termination,

It's just dawn!
